Birth Parent Adoption Services

As a licensed SC non-profit adoption agency, we offer confidential and free professional services to birth parents who are considering adoption. We provide professional counseling and a variety of support services for pregnant women and their famlies.

Our goal is to help prospective parents consider all of their options so that they can make the best choices for the future well-being of their child. If the decision is to make an adoption plan, we can help birth parents find the ideal family for their child. Our agency staff provides personal and caring assistance throughout your pregnancy and after delivery.

Open or Semi-Open Adoption Placements

If you are considering adoption, the decision to place your child with another family is a very difficult one. Adoption is a life long choice that will affect you and your unborn child for the rest of your lives. It is important that you consider all of your options so that you will do what is best for your child as well as yourself.

You can choose the parents that you want to adopt your child. We have portfolios of waiting families for you to view. It is also possible for you to meet the parents that you select. Assistance is available if you need prenatal care or other help. Counseling services are offered to help you decide what kind of relationship you would like to have with your child’s adoptive family.

Open and/or semi-open adoptive placements are available to prospective birth parents and their adoptive families. An open adoption is an agreement to share identifying information and contact between birth parents and adoptive parents. Each situation is different, so it is important that a mutual plan be decided upon by both the birth and adoptive parents. Plans can range from pre-placement meetings, to attendance at doctors’ appointments and the hospital delivery, to letters or pictures after placement, or even personal visitations after placement.

Our qualified staff is available to assist birth parents and their child’s adoptive family in developing a plan which includes the degree of openness that is acceptable for all parties of the adoption triad.

After Delivery

After delivery, the birth mother and birth father have the option to terminate their parental rights and consent to their child’s adoption before leaving the hospital. If you are a prospective birth parent, our caring staff can make these arrangements for you. After signing the necessary legal paperwork, your newborn infant can be placed after discharge from the hospital nursery directly with his/her adoptive parents. This helps to ensure that your baby bonds and becomes attached with the new family that you have selected

Birth Parent Rights

All birth parents are encouraged to participate in adoption planning for their child. All parental rights must be legally terminated before an adoption can be finalized in court. If the birth parents are married, both must sign the necessary adoption paperwork. Birth father rights are addressed according to the adoption laws of the state in which the baby is born.
