Dear Birthmother,
I am so unsure of where to begin. This is the most important letter I have ever written in my life. How do you write a letter to someone you've never met, but who could be the answer to your prayers? I am speechless when I realize the gift that you carry, and the strength that you have inside to allow that gift to be given to a family that has wished and hoped for this moment for so many years. There is no doubt in my mind that this will be an extremely difficult decision for you to make, and that thoughts of your child will be with you always.
I want to share my journey through life with you with hopes that you can understand all of the love, support, and guidance I have been blessed with in my own life. My husband and I so badly want to have our next child experience the same blessings each and every day.
Our decision to adopt came about after many attempts, and many years of trying to conceive. We have one biological son named Garrett, and he is 7 years old. We just knew that our second attempt to conceive would come easily, however after 5 years of trying, we had no such luck. We went to specialists, and even went the route of trying infertility medications. After yet another period of not getting pregnant, we decided to consider our options. Adoption was a very easy decision for us to make. We have so much to offer a child, and we want so badly to see our son grow up with a sibling. Both myself and my husband were so lucky to grow up with siblings of our own, and those relationships are extremely important to us. Family is our main focus in life, and we are so eager to share all of our love, devotion and warmth with another child.
Thomas “Tommy” and I met about 18 years ago in High School. We instantly became best friends, and shared the same interests. Over the years, especially after Graduation from High School, we took different paths in life, however we were able to stay in touch. I eventually joined the Army, and Tommy followed his dream of working in the racing industry. After about 6 years, we came back in contact face to face, and from there our story took off! We realized what we had, and neither one of us was willing to let that go again.
We married in 2001, and shortly after that, we were blessed with the arrival of our son. Tommy has been working as a Firefighter for almost 8 years now. I was a Medical Assistant when we were married, however during my 6th month of pregnancy, we decided I should stay home. I have been a hands on, stay at home Mom ever since, and wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world.
We lived in an apartment for a short while, and eventually found our lovely 3 bedroom home in a quiet neighborhood that caters to families. We enjoy so many things as a family, and are so happy that we live close to both of our parents homes. We have a very nice home with a huge backyard that is our favorite place to spend our family time. Our home is certainly very kid friendly, and ready for another little one to make it complete.
Tommy and I both come from very loving and supportive families. I have two sisters and one brother. My parents live within 5 minutes of our home, and we see them on a very regular basis. My siblings and I are, and have always been, very close. My parents have always taught us that family cannot be replaced, and to always respect one another and be true to ourselves. We share every holiday, and every special occasion together.
My Father is retired from the Army after 30 years, and now works shift work. He has always been a very active man, very loyal in every aspect of his life, lives for his family’s happiness, and I can honestly say he is my hero.
My Mother is a
Paralegal for a Lawyer that she has been with for many years. She has always
been a hands on Mom, and has always provided a very loving and warm home for all
of us. My Mom is not only family, she is my best friend. We share everything.
My Brother lives within 15 minutes of our home, and works as a Government Contractor. I speak to him each day by phone, and see him at least once a week as we have a very close relationship.
My older sister lives about 40 minutes from our home, and is a stay at home mom. Although I don’t see her on a regular basis, we keep in touch as often as we can. My younger sister just graduated college with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology, and she will be going to Graduate School in Boston later this year. She and I have a very fun relationship, and are also extremely close.
We have a wonderful group of friends, many of which have their own children. We have dinner with friends on a regular basis, and our home is always open to them and their families. We enjoy being around our friends as often as possible, and they have all been such an important part of our lives.
Tommy is one of the most loyal people I know. He is extremely outgoing, and can make friends with anyone. His family has always been his first concern, and he will do anything in his power to make us happy. His relationship with Garrett is best described as inseparable. They do everything together, and Tommy has so much more love to give another child as do I. He’s a very caring man, and has always provided for us with such heart. He loves being a Husband, Father, and Son.
Garrett is a very loving and active little boy. He wants so badly to have a little sister to grow up with and share everything with. He enjoys playing with all of his friends, riding his scooter, playing basketball, legos, cars, and he loves watching movies and playing his video games.. He is so excited to have a sister to teach all of these things to!
Tommy, Garrett, and I enjoy many different activities together. We love riding bikes, visiting the parks, cooking out and having picnics, camping, baking together, and we absolutely love watching movies.
Family vacations are a yearly priority, and possibly even more often if possible. We are huge fans of Disney World and go on a regular basis, and we enjoy taking weekend road trips to find whatever adventures we can. We love traveling to the zoo, amusement parks, museums, beaches, etc. We love experiencing new things.
I have some personal hobbies that I enjoy alone. I love decorating cakes, and am sure to have a homemade and hand decorated cake for each of Garrett’s Birthdays. I like to do all kinds of crafts, gardening, and I’m a huge fan of all kinds of music. I like watching sports, especially basketball and baseball. I’m pretty much up for anything fun!
My family
life is absolutely wonderful. I know that we can make another child very happy,
and feel very loved and safe. There is no doubt in my mind that our children
will have a lifetime of adventures, unlimited and unconditional love, and we
will always be supportive of their decisions and the paths that they decide to
take in life. We will always raise this child to know how much you love her,
and how courageous you are. Saying thank you for what you’re bringing to our
family just doesn’t seem fitting enough. We will be forever grateful to you.
Very Sincerely,
Kimberlee
